It’s suddenly May – the month of sunny days, blooming flowers, post-exams, and most importantly, frozen yogurt. Don’t get me wrong, ice cream is delicious, but frozen yogurt possesses that refreshingly special something that lingers on your taste buds long after each fat-free bite.
Frozen yogurt, or “fro yo,” as the cool kids are calling it these days provides the perfect ending to a yummy dinner without making you feel completely stuffed.
Where does one partake in the best frozen yogurt goodness in town? After experiencing fro yo here on several occasions, I can tell you that Zach’s Frozen Yogurt is by far the best you’ll taste in town. Comfortably situated on the corner of a shopping center on Jonestown Road, Zach’s offers an array of fro yo options that will excite and entice you to try them all.
Zach’s puts a spin on their frozen treats by offering many toppings and mix-ins, much like the famous Cold Stone Creamery. Though Zach’s leaves off the sporadic employee singing, they do provide a friendly and efficient staff that is willing to allow taste testing of any of the frozen yogurt flavors.
In fact, I found the service to be faster than an ice-cream shop because the speedy soft-serve yogurt machine makes it so that no scooping out of icecream bins is required. Zach’s is a tiny establishment – only having six small tables on the inside, but this makes for a cute, casual atmosphere. The decor is sparse on the inside, but the outside boasts a large fro yo mural and wrought iron benches.
Another exciting characteristic of Zachs is that the flavors change from day to day. It still keeps a few standards like chocolate and vanilla but is always spicing up the menu with a new addition. During one trip to Zach’s, I ordered a small Swiss Mocha Amaretto yogurt with Reeses mixed in, and at my most recent visit, I ordered a small Mocha Walnut with wet walnuts mixed in.
Both were excellent, and the total cost of these frozen delights is only $2.82, so basically you can satisfy your sweet tooth for under $3. Though you’re paying about $0.80 more for dessert compared with a Cookout milkshake, you feel better about eating healthier and are not completely stuffed from wolfing down a pound of ice cream at 2 a.m.
If you think fro yo lacks variety, I assure you Zach’s toppings are plentiful (I counted 27 different ones), are only $0.81, and include: cookie dough, Reeses, Oreos, coconut, cherries, various berries, nine different variations of nuts, sprinkles, cookie crumbs, and more.
If you’re a sundae fanatic, then you’ll be in for a treat because Zach’s has five different kinds, including: hot fudge, strawberry, caramel, nut topping, and fudge almond.
If for some reason fro yo isn’t your thing, then go for one of the seven different Fruit Juice Smoothies or a Shaved Ice, only $1.75 for a small. Also, Zach’s provides yogurt shakes, malts, frozen coffees, flurries, cookie shakes, banana splits, and yogurt pies.
I highly recommend taking a little drive this summer out to Jonestown Road and buying one of these many fro yo treats because you definitely won’t regret it.
