Looking for a little more than a dance room at a frat party? Sounds on Burke Street [S.O.B.S] has a bar with a wide variety of drinks, a decent-sized dance floor and a small lounge and outdoor area. It’s only open a few nights a week, but there’s a good crowd every time.

S.O.B.S. offers several different theme nights. Tuesday is Latin dance night - $2 cover charge and lessons starting at 8 p.m. To test the venue, head out to a Thursday “college night.” There’s American dance including shag, disco, and swing. Lessons begin at 8 p.m. and admission is free with a Wake ID. Fridays feature top billboard hits and Saturday is another Latin night – both days, $5 cover and the doors open at 9 p.m.

Lessons currently focus on beginning levels only; however, they may soon offer intermediate Latin dance lessons on Saturday. They are also thinking of starting lessons for Line Dancing – check the website for upcoming details.

When dancing gets you parched, check out the drink selection: the College Night Thursday special is $2 Bud Light bottles. Tuesday and Thursdays (Latin nights) feature $3 Coronas or $3 Sex on the Beach drinks. They aren’t any beers on tap, but there is a wide selection of bottled beer and plenty of mixed drinks.

There’s a DJ who keeps things going the whole night and plenty of places to sit and catch your breath. You could easily visit and just enjoy the music and the bar if you’re not in the mood for dancing.

Membership is required, but only costs $1. You can visit their website to e-mail your information and pay/pick up your membership card at the door.
