A Message From Student Government

Summer has officially begun and for the most part campus is pretty quiet. Most students are completing internships, studying abroad or working, and life at Wake is the furthest thing from their minds. For members of the Student Government Cabinet and Executive Board*, however, the summer provides an important time to get a head start on some important initiatives for next year. For students who have concerns and ideas about how to improve our University, Student Government wants to hear from you!

As the 2007-2008 academic year concluded, Student Government members heard many suggestions about ways Wake Forest could be enhanced. Although some of those suggestions have not yet materialized, Student Government, along with different campus administrators, has started working on ways to make those ideas become realities.

For example, requests to have the Deacon All in One Meal Option extended to include Subway, and also to make the hours of the Fresh Food Company (The Pit) more conducive to students’ schedule have been implemented. Aramark Resident District Manager, Roy Biggers, not only agreed to include Subway in the All in One Plan, but he also agreed to include it at other dining options across campus. Also, Mr. Biggers has decided that the Fresh Food Company will not close throughout the day at 10:30 and 4:00 as it has in the past (Although some stations will close temporarily to setup for the next meal), but will remain open the entire day. This new concept being implemented is called “Continuous Dining.”

Also, in an effort to connect administrators with students, Student Government will be working in collaboration with Dr. Hatch and other administrators to host a series of forums dealing with Student Life, Greek Life, the SAT-optional Policy and more. The first two forums are tentatively scheduled for September 11 (Forum on Student Life) and September 24th (Forum on Strategic Plan/SAT-optional policy).

Student Government really wants to be your voice! If you have suggestions or initiatives you would like to see Student Government tackle next year please send your idea to sg@wfu.edu. Also, if you are interested in being a part of Student Government next year please contact the Student Government Chief of Staff, Sarah Nick.
